I just learned this morning that Sen. DeMint's alternate economic stimulus plan was proposed as an amendment to the full Generational Theft Act/Porkapalooza bill earlier in the week, and that it was voted down (shocker). So, when you call, don't specifically request that they support that proposal - it's dead and gone. Instead, specifically request that your Senator support the ideas in that proposal: tax cuts, less government, more money staying in the pockets of American taxpayers. Sorry about the logistics snafu.
If you're having trouble getting through, you can find some alternate contact information here.
I saw a report this morning that a group of about 15 Senators is working 'behind closed doors' to knock off another $100 billion or so from this pork bill. Don't buy that crap...just do the math:
- the House passed a bill that was $819 billion
- the Senate's current bill is $937 billion
- even with another $100B shaved off, that leaves a Senate bill of $837B, which is $18B larger than the House bill
How is this an improvement?
Don't accept compromise! Even if they shaved $200B off this monster, it's not worth passing. When they talk about shaving off $700B, then I'll start getting interested.
Keep calling and e-mailing. The vote could come at any time.
There's my two cents.
