President Bush ---
Associated Press chief executive Tom Curley says the Bush administration turned the U.S. military into a global propaganda machine.President Obama ---In a speech to journalists at the University of Kansas today, Curley said news organizations must demand that the Pentagon negotiate new rules for covering conflicts.
He said both civilian officials and military leaders have cracked down on independent reporting from the battlefield, with the goal of suppressing news that’s unflattering.
Curley said top commanders warned him that if AP stuck by its journalistic principles, “The AP and I would be ruined.”
President Barack Obama went for the defining television shot in Iraq and got it — pictures of hundreds of U.S. troops cheering wildly as he told them it was time for the Iraqis to take charge of their own future.Like I said before, the examples of doublethink in current day America are multitude. I'm sure I'll be highlighting more in the days to come.
The war zone photo opportunity produced a stunning show of appreciation for Obama from military men and women who have made great sacrifices, many serving repeated tours in a highly unpopular war.
And the televised outpouring of affection likely will prove critical to the credibility of a new and liberal commander in chief as he tries to sell U.S. warriors and the American public on the grim prospects now facing them in Afghanistan.
There's my two cents.
