The Beginning Of The End

I've been doing this blog for about three years now, and I can honestly say it has been one of the most exciting, maddening, informative, depressing, uplifting, and illuminating experiences I've ever had.

Sadly, all things must come to an end.

When I started this blog, I did it for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I was angry about what was going on in this country. I thought that there was a whole lot of lying, corruption, and Leftward leaning going on, and most people had no idea of what was happening around them. I thought America was a collective bunch of frogs in heating water, oblivious to the rising temperature. I, for one, was certainly one of those frogs for a very long time! I'm not quite sure what it was that woke me up, but once it happened, I couldn't sit still and watch it all unfold without saying something. I wanted to find an outlet where I could spread the word of things that were truly important and would have a real impact on real people like you and me, and I wanted to inform people of those things.

In Tornado Alley across the Midwest, we have sirens resting atop very tall polls all over the place, and when a tornado is near, they emit an ear-splitting shriek that warns people to get under cover NOW. I intended this blog to serve as one of those sirens...an admittedly small one, but a siren nonetheless. But look where we are now - with the election and subsequent 16 months of liberal Democrat distributed monarchy, I think that a whole heckuva lot of Americans are now feeling the whipping winds and seeing the dark storm clouds all around them, and are ready and waiting to take action at the ballot box in the near future. In short, America is becoming more and more informed each day simply by waking up and witnessing what the radical Leftists in charge of America are doing. I have absolute confidence that every day Americans like you and me will rise up and take this country back, fix the mess they made, and move on...but the warning sirens are no longer necessary when the tornado is right there tearing up your own front yard.

The second reason is much more personal, if you will indulge me for a moment. I think I had this starry-eyed fantasy of growing the blog from nothing to thousands of readers and thus securing some sort of paying gig as a top-notch professional blogger. While that would have been terrific, I've come to the perhaps obvious but no less disappointing conclusion that it just ain't gonna' happen. I've often talked about common sense conservatism as including the ability and willingness to see the world as it is rather than simply how we want it to be, so it's time to walk the talk, put this fantasy aside, and move on with the business of real life and other projects. There is more than one way to be an active and participating conservative in this country, so it's time to move on to something else. Blogging is great, but if this 'career' door is closed to me, then I really should stop walking face first into it.

All that being said, this has been a tremendously rewarding experience for me. Over the past three years I've learned an enormous amount about our government, our history, and how things really work in the world, probably more than through all of my years of formal education, and I hope you've learned right along with me! But, it's time for the curtain call, and to wrap things up. For those of you who know me personally, you can bet I'll keep up with current events and politics, and (as you know) I will always be more than happy to share what I know about what's going on, who's doing what, and anything else that might apply to various political goings on. Ask away! :)

Normal blogging will continue until June 10th, but as of that date, the domain name "http://www.theresmytwocents.com" will expire, so I'm assuming the URL of 2Cents will automatically revert to the original free address, "http://theresmytwocents.blogspot.com". I don't have any plans to actually take the blog down any time soon -- it will hopefully remain a resource for you if you need to look up old stories, links, or videos, and the link lists should go a long way toward directing you to many excellent resources that remain current and active -- so I plan to leave it there. But, no new content of my own will be added from that point on. You can still reach me via the e-mail address on the top right of the blog, especially if you'd like to offer me gainful employment as a blogger. ;)

So, there it is: today is the beginning of the end. It is with many mixed emotions that I bid you farewell. This has been a tremendous journey, and I thank you for taking it with me. I sincerely wish you the best in whatever direction your future takes, and perhaps we will embark on a new journey sometime in the future.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you!

Wha-what?

You're ... leaving?

What?

First off, I'm sorry I haven't been around so much recently; I've been busy with other things. And I'm sorry to see that you're leaving.

Now, let me tell you what this blog did for me.

First of all, this was one of the first Conservative blogs I found, and probably the first one I followed. I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's very nice that you actually answered comments. Thank you for answering my comments.

Second, this blog was instrumental in teaching me how to fight with liberals (and win.) You posted a review of Ann Coulter's book, and that led to another book, titled, "How to Argue with a Liberal (If You Must)." And then I accidentally got into a fight with a liberal on this blog and won when he stormed off in a huff.

(I'm sorry I caused a ruckus, but a) I didn't do it on purpose, and b) I had the facts and I was right. Even if I didn't go all the way back to the very very first abortion.)

Lets see, what other firsts did I have around here. Oh yeah, first phone call to .... not my Rep, because my Rep is Mike Pence. But before they passed the healthcare bill I called the five Democrat reps from IN. Between you and Gateway, I've worked up the courage to call Congress and gotten comfortable doing it. (Well, for the most part.)

Unfortunately, I don't have gainful employment for you, but if you ever do get a gig somewhere else, let me know, okay?

So thanks. You taught me a lot. So I guess what I'm trying to say with all of this is that you did make a difference, even if it was a little one.

And this may sound strange, but I'll say it anyway: We can still be friends right? Even if you're not blogging anymore?

TARNS - I truly appreciate your words! One of the blessings of having a small blog is that I have been able to personally respond to each comment. I'm glad you felt free to make so many of them! :)

I can't tell you how much it means that my humble blog had such an impact on you. I've blogged it many times, but my opinion is that for conservatives to truly make a comeback, we've got to reach the apolitical masses who haven't yet taken a side. I've always tried to blog in such a way that my topics address real life for real people. To that end, if I've helped your change from apolitical to politically active, then I'm completely happy with those results! Making even a little difference can be a big deal, and I'm truly grateful to hear that's what happened with you.

Yes, of course, we will remain friends! :)

Melek - Thank you for your kind words! I sincerely appreciate all the links you've sent my way, as well as your constant cheerful attitude. As I see from your quote, you have the key to winning this battle...doesn't surprise me at all! If I ever change my mind and make a comeback, I'll be sure to let you know! :)
