Yesterday morning I mentioned two high-profile stories that were taking place, so I wanted to give just a quick update on those.
First, Obama's big-time race speech. The MSM is falling all over themselves to call it the best speech since JFK. In reality, Obama just overplayed his hand. Instead of eliminating the racial component of his campaign, he instead rallied his entire campaign under the banner of racial and class tension. Instead of putting definite distance between himself and the blatantly anti-American racially hate-speaking pastor, he instead embraced Rev. Wright and made it clear that he wasn't going to change his tune at all. In addition, many people appear to be hammering on him for throwing his own grandmother under the race bus.
On Hannity & Colmes last night, Newt Gingrich suggested what is probably going to be Obama's biggest problem now. Either Obama lied about knowing Wright's inflammatory comments, or he has serious judgment problems. He explained by pointing out that in previous statements, Obama has claimed that he knew nothing of Wright's inflammatory rhetoric, but in his speech yesterday he clearly admitted hearing things with which he disagreed. Add to that the fact that there are other circumstances I've mentioned before -- such as when Wright was 'dis-invited' from speaking at Obama's declaration party and Obama's statement that Wright's sermons can be 'rough' -- that indicate Obama knew full well Wright's positions, and you have a major dilemma for Obama. On the other hand, if he truly didn't know about Wright's hate-speech, that calls into question his judgment because if he was a regular attender of Wright's church for 20 years, if Wright married the Obamas and baptized their children, if Wright was a spiritual mentor and an influential figure in Obama's life, how could he not know about his radical positions? If Obama is so dense that he can't pick up on the open and blatant hate-speech that Wright's church is selling on DVD every week, is he truly equipped to sit across the table from world leaders and accurately navigate foreign policy? The answer is unequivocally NO.
Another abrupt reversal is the example of Obama's statements on Don Imus. At the time of the Imus/Rutgers flap, he said outright that such racial statements wouldn't be acceptable for someone working for him. Now, however, he is clearly overlooking even worse racial statements made by his own pastor.
You can bank on the fact that these catch-22s are going to cause more problems for Obama before all of this is over. Now, has Hillary just caught a brand new life in this primary race? Is this the break she's been waiting for? Since Obama has now made his campaign all about race, he faces the problem that racism just doesn't play well outside of certain liberal (and perhaps redneck) circles. Even if Obama somehow manages to win the nomination, he is suddenly much, much more vulnerable and less appealing with voting Americans all over the country.
These are all things that have resulted from conservatives like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and others leading Republicans to keep the primary fight alive, and let chaos reign in the Democrat party!
Second, the Supreme Court heard a lively debate on Washington D.C.'s gun ban. The short version is that while they haven't made a ruling yet, they seem to be indicating they believe the 2nd Amendment is intending to give the right to bear arms to individuals rather than organized militias. I'll report more on this as more details come out.
There's my two cents.
