Global Warming Update

Well, the enviro-nitwits are at it again. Gateway Pundit:
The Gore Effect [where cold weather occurs after Gore speaks on global warming] followed the former Vice President's private jet to Europe this week.
Tim Blair reported that skiing conditions are expected to be excellent across Europe this year.

While in Germany the Goracle warned Old Europe that "the entire North Polarized cap will disappear in 5 years."
That's correct... By 2013 Gore says there will be no ice at the North Pole.

Mark your calendars.
Here's the video from Gore's speech to a German audience, just so you can hear the words yourself:

Five years from now, I'll link back to this post and offer a giant "I told you so!" I'm already looking forward to it.

Now, let's take a look at how well the empirical evidence supports Gore's claim of global warming. First,
here's a map of the temperatures around the country:

Note the toasty nature of all those sub-freezing numbers. Today we have reports of record low temperatures in both Denver and Montana. The entire northeastern part of the country is bracing for power losses due to ice storms. Here's the upcoming week's forecast for Kansas City:

The Weather Center predicts daytime highs to be below freezing for much of the next seven days, with several days reaching only the teens. Clouds covering the sun for most of the day will help keep temperatures low throughout each day.
I dunno about you, but 34 and snowy isn't exactly my idea of a balmy beach day!

So what's the deal with global warming? Well, it's all about the control - liberals want to use the leverage of people trying to help the environment in order to implement as much control as possible over the lives of people. They want to dictate the temperatures in our house, they want to dictate fuel standards for vehicles, they want to dictate who pays their 'fair' share of taxes because they're not green enough, they want to dictate where businesses can open, etc. It all comes back to control.

Liberals believe that they know better than you because...well, because you're stupid. You poor thing, you don't even know that you're better off driving a plastic lawn mower that won't keep you safe in a collision with a bicycle than in driving an SUV that is high, heavy, and strong. So, don't you see, they're implementing this control over your lives
for your own good...?

That's the game in environmentalism. It's a question of control, and usually comes at the expense of freedom which, to any normal conservative, is a very, very bad thing.

But, liberals still
won't let it go:
When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, global warming was a slow-moving environmental problem that was easy to ignore. Now it is a ticking time bomb that President-elect Barack Obama can't avoid.

Global warming is accelerating. Time is close to running out, and Obama knows it.

"The time for delay is over; the time for denial is over," he said on Tuesday after meeting with former Vice President Al Gore, who won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global warming. "We all believe what the scientists have been telling us for years now that this is a matter of urgency and national security and it has to be dealt with in a serious way."
Now, for the clincher:
Mother Nature, of course, is oblivious to the federal government's machinations. Ironically, 2008 is on pace to be a slightly cooler year in a steadily rising temperature trend line. Experts say it's thanks to a La Nina weather variation. While skeptics are already using it as evidence of some kind of cooling trend, it actually illustrates how fast the world is warming.
Damn that Mother Nature! She's not cooperating with the liberal global warming agenda! Can we get someone to throw her under the bus, please? Or, at the very least, she should be censored for being a hypocrite because we all know that the planet is still heating up (despite seeing all evidence to the contrary now). Once again, it is interesting to note that facts simply do not matter to liberals - both higher and lower temperatures are caused by global warming. That's nothing to do with science, it's become another religion.

In all seriousness, here's the real cause of global warming (h/t Jawa Report):
A recent study by the Multinational Council on Climate Research, a Washington-based think tank, found that global warming, the phenomenon that is causing average temperatures on Earth to rise, is actually nothing more than a collective figment of overactive left-wing imaginations across the country.

“We were astonished by the results,” said Jacob Harcourt, managing director of the MCCR. “I had always thought the primary cause of global warming to be gases in our atmosphere that trapped the sun’s heat and caused an increase in surface temperatures. Turns out it’s nothing more than a penchant for foreign films and organic food.”

Although many question the study’s findings, Harcourt insists they are based on sound science. “We did experiments,” he said. “For example, we showed people an assortment of spatial variability charts, and the only ones who were in any way alarmed or somehow interpreted them to mean that subsurface temperatures worldwide are directly impacted by rising atmospheric heat gradients were the people that drove Volvos or had body piercings. It was crazy. We even tried it with a chart called Cumulative Mean Glacial Thickness Change. Same thing.”

“What was really weird—and this is very revealing—is that a chart depicting seasonal oscillations in carbon dioxide measurements, which were directly proportional to temperature increases, correlated almost precisely with people’s wine and cheese intake during those same periods,” Harcourt said.

The study pointed out that decades of burning oil, coal and other fossil fuels, which have raised our atmospheric carbon concentration to almost 400 parts per million, mean little when one considers the number of soy lattes consumed and the amount of volunteer work at homeless shelters over those same years.
So, as you can see, this idea of man-made global warming is a myth concocted by the active imaginations of liberals. As such, the grown-ups (conservatives) need to stand up and stop any and all attempts at catastrophic measures to curb global warming.

Also, there's this big yellow thing called the sun that really affects the temperatures around this planet, too...

There's my two cents.
