Another 'unexpected' surge in unemployment claims
The number of U.S. workers filing new applications for unemployment insurance unexpectedly surged last week, while producer prices increased sharply in January...Unemployment up, prices up? You know what that means boys and girls; that's right; CARDIGAN sweaters, Stagflation, and best of all for all you folks in your 50's, all that tacky crap in the back of your closets will be back in style which should cut down your clothing costs for the next few years if you can still fit in them.
Also of interest/annoyance - that stimulus money that was supposed to go to weatherization of houses, has only cost $57,000/house so far. It seems the only thing stimulated was the bureaucracy involved in administering it that had to calculate the "prevailing wage" for weatherization in 3,000 counties in the USA. They must have worn out a truck load of calculators and paid a lot of carpal tunnel disability claims working on that.
Why is this unexpected? The policies that Obama and the Left have been implementing for years have been proven to result in exactly this way. The fact that this is reported as 'unexpected' over and over and over only proves the definition of insanity. What it really comes down to is that this administration and its radical Leftist ideology has done so much damage to this country at this point that no informed person in their right mind can believe it's not being done intentionally. Thus...
...only 21% say government represents them
Once again, guess who's clueless:The founding document of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, states that governments derive "their just powers from the consent of the governed." Today, however, just 21% of voters nationwide believe that the federal government enjoys the consent of the governed.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% disagree and say the government does not have the necessary consent. Eighteen percent (18%) of voters are not sure.
Seventy-one percent (71%) of all voters now view the federal government as a special interest group, and 70% believe that the government and big business typically work together in ways that hurt consumers and investors.
That helps explain why 75% of voters are angry at the policies of the federal government, and 63% say it would be better for the country if most members of Congress are defeated this November. Just 27% believe their own representative in Congress is the best person for the job.
63% of the Political Class think the government has the consent of the governed, but only six percent (6%) of those with Mainstream views agree.
If we are at a point now, in February, where the anger is so strong that it matches that of pre-election 1994, just think what it's going to be like in another eight months. A woodshed thumping? A complete thrashing? A blood-letting? We may 'unexpectedly' run out of adjectives.
Dems push radical 'safe schools czar' policy into schools (emphasis mine)
This is a brilliant example of the insidiousness of liberalism. On the face of it, this sounds like a perfectly good, reasonable, and appropriate bill - no discrimination. Right? But, if you understand how this will play out in real life...Forget reading, writing and arithmatic, Democrats have more important subjects in mind for your child. Democrats are working to push HR 4530 through Congress. This bill will force educators to prohibit harassment, violence and discrimination faced by students based on their sexual orientation. That doesn't sound so bad, but that's not all it does. The bill will also allows educators and education officials like Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings to push their radical agenda in the classroom. And, if you don't like the new policies or object to the program, the bill authorizes the federal government to cut off the educational assistance to schools that fail to enforce the new rules. Critics of the bill understand the law would give the controversial Safe Schools Czar, Kevin Jennings, almost unlimited authority to mandate sexual indoctrination in public schools at taxpayer expense. It won't matter what your child is taught at home, this bill will allow radical educators to push their agenda in public schools despite your possible concerns.
U.S. Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) introduced HR 4530 School Non-Discrimination Act of 2010 late last month to prohibit harassment, violence and discrimination faced by students based on their sexual orientation. The bill "prohibits public school students from being excluded from participating in, or subject to discrimination under, any federally-assisted educational program on the basis of their actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity or that of their associates." The law considers perceived harassment to be a form of discrimination. The bill authorizes federal departments and agencies to enforce these new rules by cutting off the educational assistance of recipients found to be violating them. It allows an aggrieved individual to assert a violation of this Act in a judicial proceeding and recover reasonable attorney's fees should they prevail. 65 democrats signed on to this bill. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Education and Labor on January 27, 2010.
It is also a big step forward in establishing a thought police and criminalizing 'incorrect' thoughts. Do you realize how dangerous this is? They're literally trying to regulate your thoughts! It sounds innocent enough until you look at its real intent.
The purpose of this bill is not what is being stated, but is quite simply to mandate in public schools one acceptable viewpoint on the issue of homosexuality, using purported violence or harassment as the rationale, and the power of the feds as the hammer. The goal is to silence those who may warn about or object to student expression of homosexuality or gender confusion… The federal governmental intrusion and sweeping new unregulated powers in what are local and state matters are proposed in this bill. Enforcement will primarily be through federal agencies, which will craft new regulations to back up this bill's provisions with the President's approval. Can you spell "czar"?
In other words, if you oppose radical sexual material detailing sex between first graders or promoting S&M but the Safe Schools Czar or some other official believes it is appropriate- tough. If you disagree with books romanticizing child rape or books with pictures of men having sex- tough. If you oppose weekend student-teacher seminars with fisting lectures and gay bar guides- tough. If government officials want to promote this in your child's classroom then you'll just have to get used to it.
No one wants to see a child picked on, harrassed or ridiculed, but this bill takes government control to a whole new level. It is a radical's dream come true. This bill is a direct assault on our nation's moral fabric.
Read more on Kevin Jennings here, here, here, here, here, and here. They should rename this bill the Thought Police Establishment Act of 2010. If this goes into law, start looking for your homeschooling curriculum. Until they make that illegal, too. Lots of 'incorrect' thoughts in homeschooling, you know.
Is this another lie, or just complete incompetence? (part 4,389)
Barack Obama seems to have yet another problem with research. Yesterday, on the anniversary of Porkulus, Obama claimed that his economic stimulus saved America from total economic collapse, and repeated his claim that Porkulus saved or created 2 million jobs. Rove took a look at the Recovery site — supposedly the official site to produce those statistics — and it accounted for just over a quarter of that number.
According to Recovery.gov, the number of funded jobs reported by Porkulus recipients is 595,263. which is a far cry from 2 million. Either Obama can't be bothered to do research, or someone can't keep their lies straight.
And also note that the new metric "funded jobs", which supposedly replaced "jobs created or saved," is also reported fewer jobs than the old metric.
I vote lie. It's been well established that the entire notion of jobs 'saved or created' is a load of crap, anyway. That's the problem when you're making stuff up and constantly lying about it - it's awfully hard to keep your lies straight. Anyway, propping up the notion that the first stimulus created any jobs only paves the way for the next stimulus, which will only further the debt load on future generations of Americans.
The radical Left is doing its damnedest to destroy the foundations of America in the re-making project of Barack Obama, and they're unfortunately having some success. Even with massive losses this November, the Democrats will have implemented enough destructive policies and laws that it will take years to clean it all up. All the more reason we should start immediately, don't you think? Here's step one: NO!
Let me explain more fully: NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO!!!!!!!!!
The answer to anything and everything that Obama and the Democrats propose from this point forward should be a resounding NO. Heritage provides more details on the economy, for one thing (emphasis mine):
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) recently introduced the "Roadmap for America's Future", a plan to reduce federal spending, pay off the national debt, and ensure future American prosperity. The Roadmap would create long-term fiscal solvency in the three federal entitlement programs—Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security—which otherwise promise to drive the nation into bankruptcy. Rep. Ryan's legislation is currently the only comprehensive proposal to reverse the federal government's budgetary woes.
The only acknowledgment Democrats have offered of Rep. Ryan's proposal has been largely criticism. Alternative solutions heard from the left amount to little more than a weak executive-appointed committee to explore budget reform. This implies a preference to maintain the status quo rather than truly address America's fiscal future, and will result in nothing short of prolonged change and protection of unsustainable federal spending.
The Dems' plans will only expand entitlements, which will only make the situation worse. The GOP has a legitimate plan that will not only prevent growth, but will actually reverse the debt and eventually pull us back into the black, and the Dems don't do anything but ridicule. So what if we do nothing? Will that work?
And what exactly is the status quo? According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), without Rep. Ryan's proposal, entitlement spending will more than double by 2050, reaching 18.1% of Gross Domestic Product. If current tax rates are held constant, spending on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will consume all federal revenue by 2052, so that all other government programs and defense spending would be paid for by staggering deficit spending. Social Security will experience red ink this year and will run permanent deficits beginning in 2016. Under the current trajectory, total government spending will reach 67 percent of GDP by 2082.
If entitlements are left untouched, CBO predicts tax rates would double to cover the cost. By 2080, some Americans would pay up to 88 percent of their income in taxes, and even the lowest tax bracket would pay 25 percent. William Gale of the Brookings Institute estimates new revenue sources, such as a value-added tax of 15 to 20 percent, would be necessary to close the budgetary gap. The economic ramifications of this level of taxation would be tremendous.
Can you have a better recipe for the absolute annihilation of any economy? I can't see this actually happening, though...we'd spiral into hyperinflation and collapse long before 2080. No worries. So, once again, here's the Dem plan:
Thus: NO.If President Obama's 2011 budget is any indicator, Democrats will not get serious about spending any time soon. The proposed budget will put the country $2.5 trillion further into debt by 2020 than would current law, leaving annual deficits above $1 trillion. This alone is irresponsible, but criticizing a solid proposal while offering no solutions of their own marks Roadmap opponents as the foe of a sustainable and economically viable future for America.
Over the past year we've seen in the Obama administration and the Democrat Congress the utter lack of cooperation, the utter lack of economic sanity, and the utter lack of responsibility, even in the face of obvious and overwhelming opposition from the American people. No further demonstration is necessary.
NO.
NO. NO. NO.
There's my two cents.
