The shamnesty bill has been shelved, at least for the time being. YES!!!
The theories explaining exactly why it failed are as numerous as the people writing them. I think the simplest answer is the best: too many Americans opposed it. A new Rasmussen poll illustrates the wide cross-section of people that didn't like it - basically, everyone. The only real mystery is how a large chunk of the Senate (Republicans and Democrats alike), as well as the White House, completely missed that fact.
Regardless, maybe someone will put forth a more reasonable immigration bill; very few people would oppose something that actually addressed the problem in a reasonable and just way. Hopefully someone will do that soon, but we'll just have to wait and see. Anyway, kudos to all those who made their voices known - see, it works! And, of course, kudos to those Senators who opposed this shamnesty bill - thank you for representing us well!
Now I'm going to have to find another topic to blog about. :)
There's my two cents.
