Today Democratic Representative Lloyd Doggett called the anti-Obamacare protesters who confronted him in Austin a "mob."
Glenn Thrush reported:
Rep. Lloyd Doggett's office is calling the protesters who swarmed him in Austin over the weekend a "mob," and blaming the chaos on the local libertarian and Republican activists...It looks like this Far Left Rep is a bit sensitive that his constituents would dare confront him on his party's Far Left agenda.
Here's Doggett's response to the protesters at his event, sent to my colleague Alex Isenstadt:
"This mob, sent by the local Republican and Libertarian parties, did not come just to be heard, but to deny others the right to be heard. And this appears to be part of a coordinated, nationwide effort. What could be more appropriate for the "party of no" than having its stalwarts drowning out the voices of their neighbors by screaming "just say no!"
A 'mob'? Hey, these people were certainly angry, but I don't recall seeing any pitchforks or overturned cars, do you? Still, could this be the prevailing attitude of Congress over the next couple weeks? If they can point to angry constituents as being 'dangerous' or 'unruly', then that might well justify (in their own minds) ignoring them. Never mind that the whole concept of representation requires an understanding of and listening to the views of those being represented, and never mind the fact that this arrogant dismissal is a large part of the reason for the anger in the first place...
We'll know soon enough, if more cowardly Reps and Senators start making statements like this in order to dodge their own constituents. My opinion, then, is that any rep who plays this card should immediately be voted home, period. End of story. They work for us, and if they can't be bothered to spend some time understanding what we do and don't want, then they've ceased representing us.
I'll post more of these Obamacare revolts as they come out. I bet there will be more.
There's my two cents.
