The basic idea is that Barack Obama was born in Kenya, not Hawaii, and therefore is not eligible to hold the office of President because he is not a 'natural born citizen', which is dictated as a requirement in the U.S. Constitution.
I know, I'm with you: this seems way too far out to be real. Again, bear with me as we explore the facts together. There's one key thing that put this over the top for me that we'll get to in a moment.
This controversy actually started months ago, but the media stuck its head in the sand and refused to investigate, so it never really caught on. Eventually, some in the blogosphere pushed hard enough that Obama was forced to cough up a scanned image of his birth certificate. Oddly enough, the image of the document was initially released to the far-Left website DailyKos. Still, that seemed to quiet the furor...until someone determined the image posted at the DailyKos was a forgery.
I looked at the website where the forgery was exposed, and it is a very compelling argument. This is what persuaded me of the potential authenticity of this story.
This is also what got other people looking into it again this past summer. Obama admitted he had dual citizenship (U.S. and Kenya), but then used the Annenberg Foundation -- the same organization where Obama served with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers -- to debunk the forgery. Unfortunately for him, the scanned document they provided as a fact check was also found to be manipulated, and not even the same image as the one Obama had originally provided to DailyKos, nor the one presented on Obama's own website.
Fast forward until just a few weeks ago. Phillip J. Berg, a Pennsylvania Democrat and former District Attorney (if I recall correctly) filed a lawsuit against Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee, accusing the former of lying about his birth and citizenship, the latter of not properly vetting its candidate.
Here is where things start to get strange...and suspicious.
Berg has repeatedly and publicly stated that he will withdraw his lawsuit if the Obama campaign simply provides the original certificate of live birth (COLB) for study by independent experts, and it proves to be authentic. In response to the lawsuit, Obama chose to file for dismissal of the suit rather than just provide his legal documentation of birth. Berg filed a motion on September 15 to force a response before the election got too close, giving Obama 30 days to respond. He did nothing. According to law, a non-response is viewed as an admission of the charges.
So, legally speaking, as of October 15 Barack Obama has now admitted to the charges in the Berg lawsuit, including the fact that he is not a 'natural born citizen'. That means he is legally required to withdraw his candidacy for President:
"It all comes down to the fact that there's nothing from the other side," Berg told Jeff Schreiber for his blog, America's Right. "The admissions are there. By not filing the answers or objections, the defense has admitted everything. He admits he was born in Kenya. He admits he was adopted in Indonesia. He admits that the documentation posted online is a phony. And he admits that he is constitutionally ineligible to serve as president of the United States."Many people who have thus far stayed away from the controversy are now asking questions. A representative sample is this from Andy McCarthy at NRO:
But wait, it gets even stranger.Admittedly, I've ignored this issue up until now on the theory that if there was anything here worth looking at, surely the Hillary and McCain campaigns would have raised it. But this all seems very strange. It's not just a matter of whether Obama was born in Hawaii — Berg claims he wasn't, but most others seem to agree he was (though the publicly available proof seems shaky at this point). There is also the question whether he was also a citizen of one or more other countries (Kenya? Indonesia?) and whether that means, as a matter of law, that he could not be a "natural born" citizen as required by the Constitution.
Has anyone around here looked into this? Is it a serious issue, and why does Obama seem to be so squirmy about it?
On Monday of this week, Obama announced that he would suspend his campaign activities to visit his grandmother in Hawaii, who had suddenly become deathly ill. The timing is a bit odd, being less than two weeks before a presidential election, but if her health is truly the issue, there's nothing to be done about it. The odd part is that it's now the end of the week and he hasn't departed for Hawaii yet. Surely, if she were truly that ill, he wouldn't be sitting around waiting, would he? Especially if his lead is actually as large as some polls say it is, what is he waiting for? Rush Limbaugh comments:
Now, if he's already won the presidency, why hasn't he already gone to Hawaii? Why is he not already there? What's he waiting for? If Obama's grandmother is deathly ill, why has this been announced days ago and he's only going now," or tomorrow, or whenever it is. ... Am I not asking obvious questions? Who announces days in advance they're rushing to the side of a loved one who is deathly ill but keeps campaigning in a race that's said to be over, only to go to the loved one's side days later? See, I think this is about something else. You know what's really percolating out there? I've been laying low on this because it hasn't met the threshold to pass the smell test on this program.Or, there may be another answer. Andy Martin has filed another lawsuit in Hawaii to uncover Obama's true birth records - it appears that Obama is waiting for Martin to leave Honolulu before visiting his grandmother. Hmmm...
This birth certificate business, this lawsuit that a guy named Philip Berg filed in Philadelphia in August for Obama to produce his genuine birth certificate and he still hasn't replied. You've got a deathly ill grandmother, you are going to rush to her side a few days from now, when you first announced this, you're going to rush, you're going to hurry, you're going to make tracks, you're going to get over there because you don't want your grandmother to die before you got there like your mother did, but somehow you keep campaigning, you take three days to get over there, if he's left yet, and this birth certificate business, I'm just wondering if something's up. I have no clue, and folks, I'm telling you, this has not reached the threshold until now, and it's popping up all over the place. There are a lot of people now that are starting to speculate and be curious about this.
WND reporter Jerome Corsi adds even more fuel to the fire. Fresh off a trip from Kenya, he claims that Obama was born in Mombossa, on the Kenyan coast. Seemingly corroborating that statement, Phillip Berg claims to have a recording of a conversation with Obama's grandmother who said she was in the delivery room in Kenya when Obama was born on August 4th, 1961. The recording is supposedly going to be released in the next couple days.
In addition to Berg's, other lawsuits have been filed as well, including...
"...one in Washington state where petitioners are seeking to have the Washington secretary of state 'verify Obama's eligibility' to serve prior to the election.If all this is true, his presidential bid is finished. But, it's not just the Presidency at stake here - depending on the circumstances, it could get much, much worse for Obama:The claim states, 'The 'certificate' that Mr. Obama has posted on his official Website is a 'Certification of Live Birth,' and not a 'Birth Certificate' from Hawaii. There is no indication on even this certificate as to specifically where the birth took place.'
Berg also told Savage there is no information available on which hospital Obama's mother used in Hawaii.
The Washington state case also alleges, 'Wayne Madsen, Journalist with Online Journal as a contributing writer and published an article on June 9, 2008, stating that a research team went to Mombassa, Kenya, and located a Certificate Registering the birth of Barack Obama, Jr. at a Kenya Maternity Hospital, to his father, a Kenyan citizen and his mother, a U.S. citizen.'"
The Washington claim states, "If in fact Obama was born in Kenya, the laws on the books in the United States at the time of his birth stated if a child is born abroad and one parent was a U.S. Citizen, which would have been his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, Obama's mother would have had to live ten (10) years in the United States, five (5) of which were after the age of fourteen (14). At the time of Obama's birth, his mother was only eighteen (18) and therefore did not meet the residency requirements under the law to give her son (Obama) U.S. Citizenship much less the status of 'natural born.'"We'll have to see how all that plays out, but the key thing is obviously the location of Obama's birth. That's the one we need to watch very carefully!Berg said he believed it also was a complication that Obama's mother divorced his father, married and moved to Indonesia for several years and Obama attended school there at a time when, Berg said, only Indonesia citizens were allowed in schools. Records that are available from Indonesia revealed Obama was registered in school as Barry Soetoro, and his religion was listed as Islam.
When Obama later returned to Hawaii, within the United States, there should have been a government document affirming his citizenship, but that also cannot be found. If that was not processed properly, Berg said, Obama would be in a situation even worse than not being a natural-born citizen.
"If he didn't go through immigration, he now is illegal and has been an illegal alien. He couldn't even hold the position of senator for Illinois," Berg said.
One last wrinkle to pass along. It is a fact that Obama has completely sealed all of his college records from Columbia and Harvard. Up to this point, most of the speculation is that he really delved into the Leftist radicalism there, and as such didn't want word of his involvement in those activities to become public. Now, with these new revelations of the birth certificate controversy, Phillip Berg suggests that Obama is keeping his records secret because they show he was considered a foreign student or utilized foreign aid.
As far as bombshells go, it doesn't get any bigger than this. At the very least, it's something that warrants some serious investigation and questions.
Once again, all of this is still developing. If the recording comes out as suggested, and if Obama cannot sufficiently answer the question of his legal birth and citizenship status, his bid for the White House is all but over. I'm certain that the Left will go to the mat for Obama -- though if true it would be a perfectly ironic example of their own failure to vet the candidates they champion coming back to bite them -- no matter what, but if the proof is there, I don't see how he can possibly stay in the race.
Other follow-up questions to consider: will McCain attack this if it proves to be true? What will the Democrats do if Obama is forced withdraw from the ticket? If all of this is proven, will we still see race riots across the country?
I'll pass along everything I can find on the controversy as it unfolds. We don't know the complete picture yet, but I suspect we'll learn more quickly.
