The Future War

Gateway Pundit reports on an important story from the Middle East regarding a potential future war:

Well, here's a shocker...
The Hezbollah terrorist organization now has 3 times as many missiles as it did before the Second Lebanon War in 2006.
The Jerusalem Post and Jihad Watch reported:

Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Monday cautioned that Hizbullah had greatly improved its capabilities since the Second Lebanon War and was in possession of rockets that could reach as far south as Dimona. The defense minister also warned Beirut that the Shi'ite militia's integration into the Lebanese government could lead to extensive attacks on Lebanese infrastructure in the event of a military conflagration.

"Hizbullah has three times the ability it had before the Second Lebanon War and now has 42,000 missiles in its possession, as opposed to the 14,000 it had before the war," Barak said in a Knesset speech, warning that Hizbullah's recent maneuvers south of the Litani River were a liability for Lebanon. "In practice, UN Resolution 1701 isn't working, and Hizbullah's integration within the Lebanese republic exposes Lebanon and its infrastructures to a more massive hit in the event of a future standoff."

Barak went on to threaten Iran, which he said "continues to thumb its nose at the world and act vigorously to promote its military nuclear program. Israel is not taking any option off the table and I recommend that neither do others. Beyond that, any explicit statement would be harmful."
Evidently, that UN Resolution insisting that Hezballah disarm did not work out so well.

Sound familiar?  If you're a long-time reader of this blog (or, if you understand the history and practices of radical Islamic groups), it should.  Back in June of this year, I posted about why many of our elected leaders can't fight terrorism effectively.  Here are some excerpts:

...and that the only function of the peace treaty, or "hudna," is to give the Islamic armies time to regroup for a renewed offensive, and should, in theory, last no more than ten years.

Koranic verses 3:28 and 16:106, as well as Muhammad's famous assertion, "War is deceit," have all led to the formulation of a number of doctrines of dissimulation-the most notorious  among them being the doctrine of "Taqiyya," which permits Muslims to lie and dissemble whenever they are under the authority of the infidel.  Deception has such a prominent role that renowned Muslim scholar Ibn al-Arabi declares: "[I]n the Hadith, practicing deceit in war is well demonstrated.  Indeed, its need is more stressed than [the need for] courage" (The Al Qaeda Reader, 142).

[Me:] Did you catch the part about what Islam teaches is the purpose of treaties?  They are simply lies that buy time to regroup and re-arm for the next war.  Does this sound familiar at all?  How about the Palestinians and Israel?  Interestingly enough, they just entered into a treaty this week.  How long do you suppose it will last?  Who do you suppose will break it?  If history (and Islam) teaches us anything, it teaches us that these Islamic radicals are only gathering their strength, and will attack Israel again as soon as they feel they are prepared for it.  This is not a speculation; it will happen.  Just wait and see.  This is not because the Palestinians are impatient, but rather because they are devout Muslims, following precisely the dictates of Islam to remain in conflict with all non-Muslims at all times, except when they're re-arming.

Just for the record, the Palestinians kept up their end of that particular treaty for all of five days

Here's the point.  Peace through negotiation is not possible with Islamic nations (or organizations).  They will agree to whatever treaty they have to in order to buy time to re-arm.  But, they will only adhere to that treaty until they feel ready to begin the next war against their enemies.  It's that simple.  History shows it over and over and over.  This year is no different than any other year.  That's because it's a fundamental teaching of the Islam faith to lie while entering a treaty, using the 'peace' only to build up strength for the next attack.

The liberal Left neither understands nor accepts this reality.  That is why they cannot be trusted to direct America's national security - they will sit at the table (without preconditions) and negotiate endlessly
with our enemies, bragging about how they are moving toward a lasting peace.  They may even end up with a piece of paper that says everyone is now happy with the terms of that so-called 'peace'.  But, that piece of paper burns real fast once the rockets start falling again, and it is inevitable that they will.  So, while the Leftists of the world -- some of whom will soon control the American military machine -- sit and chat about 'peace' and negotiations, our enemies will be building more rockets, developing nuclear technology, and recruiting more suicide bombers.

By the time they are forced to admit they were wrong, it will be too late - lives will be lost, and the war will already be in full swing, because our enemies will have taken the first strike.

The only way to ensure peace with our Islamic enemies is through strength.  We must continue to develop better, more effective, and more powerful weapons that will be able to cleanly take out our enemies and their strongholds when that future war erupts.  And, most importantly, we must be prepared to use them.  All the weapons in the world will not protect America or our allies if we lack the will to use them.

Reagan ended the Cold War -- a nuclear war, remember -- without ever having to fire a single shot.  He did so by projecting the massive strength of American military might, and the iron-bound will to use it if necessary in the defense of freedom around the world.

Obama will certainly face enemies of the same magnitude as the old Soviet Union, but does he have that same iron-bound will to project and use our military in defense of freedom?  According to what he himself promised on the campaign trail, he does not.  In fact, he promised quite the opposite - to gut the military, reduce defense spending by 25%, dismantle programs like our missile
defense shield, and remove our nuclear arsenal before any of our enemies follow suit.  At the same time, he will engage in the exact behavior that will allow our enemies to gather their weapons of war against us - negotiation.  I sincerely hope that I am wrong about him, but all we have to go on are his own words.

To me, they sound like a prescription for national suicide.

There's my two cents.
