Low Blow From The Left

Well, the Left wasted no time in trashing the Palin family. Typically, in national politics, the spouses of the candidates are supposed to be left alone unless they actively engage in policy and decision-making processes (like Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama). That's a traditional agreement that's generally respected by both sides. An even more strenuous agreement is to leave hands off of all children of candidates entirely. Even Chelsea Clinton (who is now in her 20s and actively campaigned for her mother) was pretty much left alone.

Unfortunately, the left has plumbed new depths in their depravity and efforts to win this election for Obama no matter the cost. They have attacked Sarah Palin's 17-year old daughter, Bristol.

The poster child for Left-wing hatred, DailyKos -- a jolly ol' website that rejoices at misfortune for those on the Right (like Novak's brain tumor) and actively endorses the assassination of Bush and Cheney -- has suggested that Sarah Palin's infant, Trig, is not her own, but rather Bristol's, and even questions whether the father is Bristol's own dad, Sarah's husband, Todd.

Spinning a tale of pure conspiracy theory by examining pictures of Sarah Palin over the months prior to Trig's birth, they slander the Governor of Alaska and her daughter, boldly proclaiming the baby switch.

Here is the McCain-Palin campaign's classy response:
"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."
Once again, the Palin family shows their belief that life is sacred, and although mistakes are made, that doesn't change their beliefs. They rightfully ask the Left attack machine to give this girl some privacy.

This vile attack should be soundly condemned by everyone, including the Obamessiah campaign. At a bare minimum, he needs to release a statement in the next couple days denouncing the attack by the DailyKos and calling for privacy for Bristol. If he does not, he will be granting unspoken approval for the tactic, proving that he is quite content to drag a seventeen year old girl through the mud during one of the most difficult times in her life, just to win.

This, too, could backfire on the Left. Their extreme radical tendencies are usually viewed by normal people (Dems, Reps, and Indies alike) as vile and unsavory, and, if tied to Obama, could lead to even more defections from the Obamessiah's train. In their enthusiasm to destroy Obama's competition, they may end up hurting Obama himself.

Regardless, the tone will be set by Obama. Let's watch and see what he does.

There's my two cents.

Obama came out pretty strongly:

“People’s families are off-limits and people’s children are especially off-limits,” Obama told reporters following a campaign event in Monroe, Michigan. “This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as a governor or potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories,” he added.

And, actually, here's the rest of Obama's response, which adds some more context (this quote starts off immediately after the quote I posted earlier):

"You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics."

On charges that his campaign has stoked the story via liberal blogs:

"I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us," he said. "Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I thought there was somebody in my campaign who was involved in something like that, they would be fired."

Michael - yes, he did. Good for him! Now, his Obots just need to follow his lead, but I'm not holding my breath...
