More Gun Control, Anyone?

One of the liberal Left's consistent policy positions is that guns are eeeeeevil and should be banned in all cases except for forcing taxpayers to cough up their money to the government.  Or in the case of forcing citizens to do whatever it is liberals want them to do.  But aside from that, no one else should have any guns for any reason.

The typical ploy has been to ban certain guns or somehow restrict gun sales.  Never mind that the right to own a gun is constitutionally guaranteed...the liberals know better.  Never mind the fact that only law-abiding people will pay attention to gun-restricting laws, thus enabling law-breaking criminals who conveniently still have their guns to perpetrate more frequent and more violent crimes on unarmed victims...the liberals still know better.  Never mind the repeated demonstrations of 'gun-free' zones turning into killing fields, while rampages undertaken when private and responsible citizens have guns at hand end quickly with minimal death and terror...the liberals still know better.

Since the NRA has the cahoneys to hit back hard, and because this right is so deeply ingrained into much of the American public, the anti-gun lobby has been mostly unsuccessful in removing guns from America.  But they've now found a new tactic, and it is dangerous because of its sleight-of-hand: registering and tracking ammunition.

In a new bill introduced the first day of present session of Congress, and with zero coverage from the MSM, H.R. 45 (Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009) targets all gun owners in the U.S.A.

This nefarious bill seeks to strip us all of our Constitutional Rights to possess and bear firearms of any distinction. It requires, within the first two years, that all new guns be registered. The bill goes retroactive after two years.  Meaning that two years after the passage of the bill, ALL FIREARMS in a citizen's possession must be registered, not just those purchased after the bill passes, and this apparently applies to antique firearms as well.

Every five years the firearm owner must go through a complete renewal process for each weapon owned.   Failure to comply carries stiff penalties including confiscation of the firearms and jail time (penalties as high as ten years imprisonment in some cases).  The bill also authorizes government searches without warrant, the creation of a federal bureaucracy to monitor firearm possession, etc.

...If you read the whole bill, you'll find it will effectively preclude the ownership of any firearms by law-abiding people unless directly licensed by the Attorney General.

This idea is a clear violation of the Constitution, and should be immediately obliterated into little tiny pieces.  This new effort should not be taken lightly, because the Founders established the 2nd amendment specifically to guarantee that the citizens of America always functioned as the ultimate check on a tyrannical government.  Taking away the right for citizens to own guns flies directly in the face of all that the Founders intended, and paves the way to another tyrannical dictatorship (but by committee -- Congress -- rather than an individual).

Obviously, guns are useless without ammunition, so this would not only monitor all weapons in the hands of citizens, but it would also effectively establish a blanket gun control by rendering them useless.  This particular flavor of gun control legislation could be particularly tricky because it sounds so reasonable to track the ammunition.  But, as is typical with liberals, what they say is not what we'll get, and that's the message that must get out.

Keep an eye on this one, because it will be a major, major battle, and is critical to keeping America a nation of empowered citizens.

There's my two cents.
