Quotes To Ponder

Got a few more for you, courtesy of Patriot Post.

"A fondness for power is implanted, in most men, and it is natural to abuse it, when acquired."
-- Alexander Hamilton --

Nah, our elected leaders haven't abused their authority at all, have they?

"An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy; because there is a limit beyond which no institution and no property can bear taxation."
-- John Marshall --

Barack Obama is laying the foundation for just such an unlimited power for himself. He's already figured out how to sucker people into voting for redistribution by calling it a tax 'cut', and his lapdogs in the media have completely ignored his tax increase on smokers -- a massive tax increase on tobacco, most of which is smoked by poor people -- through the S-CHIP bill he signed just days after taking office. His policies
take aim at American prosperity, and he has done so partly by leveling tax increases at the wealthy. We've also talked repeatedly here about the tax tipping point, which is approaching quickly. This is exactly what John Marshall warned against.

"Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood."
-- John Adams --

Liberty means freedom, the very thing that an all-powerful government eliminates. Adams is saying that to give up our freedoms is to reject the sacrifices of our forefathers who gave up literally everything to obtain it for us.

"[W]here there is no law, there is no liberty; and nothing deserves the name of law but that which is certain and universal in its operation upon all the members of the community."
-- Benjamin Rush --

"The most sacred of the duties of a government [is] to do equal and impartial justice to all citizens."
-- Thomas Jefferson --

Translation: ignoring the Constitution and implementing unfair redistribution of wealth is WRONG, and the recipe for disaster. When we do away with the Constitution and the law -- and its equal application to everyone -- nothing else remains.

This is where Obama is taking us.

There's my two cents.
