It's Official: Obama Becomes Emperor

The Democrats now have a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, thus Obama can have anything he wants:

Well, it appears that the head of the Turncoat Caucus is finally making it official. Arlen Specter, we have just 10 words for you:

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter will switch his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat, according to sources informed on the decision.

Specter's decision would give Democrats a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate assuming Democrat Al Franken is eventually sworn in as the next Senator from Minnesota. (Former Sen. Norm Coleman is appealing Franken's victory in the state Supreme Court.)

"I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," said Specter in a statement. "I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election."

"Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

The readers at Human Events give Specter a nice send-off.

Here's a sample of those send-off comments:

RINO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEAVE NOW!!!!! AND TAKE JOHN MCCAIN AND HIS DAUGHTER WITH YOU!!!!!!!

He should be immediately recalled if he does this.

CAN WE GET JOE LIEBERMAN AS A TRADE FOR THE MISCREANT SPECTER?

This surprises anyone? Anyone at all?

What do you mean, "switch"? He's been with them for years, now.....

And on and on.  So true.

Not that this really changes much - having a 59-vote majority isn't a whole lot less powerful than a 60-vote majority.  It really comes down to needing Democrats to stop the Obama socialist steamroller, and we've all see how well that usually works out.  The country will have to sit tight and hope to survive the next 18 months before having a chance to rectify things.  Until then, Emperor Obama gets his way.

There's my two cents.
