Obama's Latest Gaffe (Yes, He Keeps 'Em Coming)

From Newsbusters:
Seeing dead people in the audience wasn't Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama's only gaffe on Monday, for it has now been revealed that he also spoke about an uncle "who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps."

American troops didn't liberate Auschwitz; Soviet troops did.
Little Green Footballs has some more updates if you're interested.

Is this guy seriously the best presidential contender from the Democrat party? He has repeatedly demonstrated a startlingly complete ignorance of history over the past few weeks, and cannot seem to refrain from shooting his own foot off. McCain should be salivating to face this guy in the general election!

What's scary to me is just how many people are willing to overlook Obama's supreme unqualified-ness for the most difficult job in the world, and will still vote for him. What is America coming to??

There's my two cents.

Do you really think this comment shows Obama's unqualification to be President? I wholeheartedly disagree.

1. He was telling a story that was told to him in family situations. Those stories (and every family has them) often mistake facts (whether it was an Uncle or Great Uncle or whether it was Auschwitz or Buchenwald). It's not like he was speaking a dissertation on history, and I highly doubt his family did historical background checks to verify exactly the role their uncle played in the liberation of the concentration camps.

2. In all sincerity, before this "gaffe," if someone came up to you and asked "who liberated Auschwitz?" would you have known the answer for sure? (I probably would have guessed US troops, but hopefully would have at least thought about the Russians).

3. Again in all sincerity, do you think 50% of Americans would have known the answer to that question? 40%? 30%? I bet not very many would have known the right answer (and sadly, I bet a bunch probably wouldn't even know what Auschwitz was).

So, he goofed on history based on a story his family had passed down when he was growing up. Again, like many of the "gaffes" brought up by the CSM (conservative stream media), this has no bearing on whether Obama should be president.
