Showing Up The Obamessiah

Sarah Palin's speech last night made some major headlines today for another reason: a heckuva lot of people watched her (emphasis mine):
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's highly anticipated speech at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night nearly matched the record-setting numbers of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Palin pulled in 37.2 million viewers across broadcast and cable networks, according to Nielsen Media Research.

That's 55% higher than Day 3 of the DNC, when her Democratic counterpart, Joe Biden, and President Clinton took the stage (24 million).

In fact, it came close to upsetting Obama's historic address last Thursday -- the most-watched convention speech in history (38.4 million viewers).

The event also drew more female viewers than Hillary Clinton's speech last week.

Whoa! What this article doesn't say is that the Obamessiah's speech was carried on a total of 10 TV networks, while Palin's was only carried on six. If you extrapolate the numbers, she actually got a far better viewing percentage than the Obamessiah despite the MSM's continuing slights!

Another sign of problems for the Obamessiah: McCain has already closed an 8-point poll gap in at least one poll, and that's before the GOP nominee even speaks tonight! It will be interesting to see what happens in the overall trend of multiple polls after the RNC concludes.

But, the Obamessiah can rest assured that the MSM will fight harder than ever for him. Take, for instance, this statement by Jonathan Alter at Newsweek:

I'd imagine that Palin will dodge press conferences in favor of interviews with people like Sean Hannity, Larry King and Ellen DeGeneres. Then, when the media complain that she is being kept away, the McCain campaign will cite the half dozen or so interviews she has granted as proof that the campaign press is just bellyaching. Brief press "avails" on the plane will be useless, unless reporters ask open-ended queries designed to elicit proof of real knowledge.

That should get Palin through the next three weeks. By the end of the month, the McCain camp can say she has to go to ground to prepare for the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate, where expectations will be so low for Palin that she will likely emerge intact. It will be up to the press and public to raise enough of a stink about this, that Palin is forced to submit to real interviews with real questions that show whether her real-life experience is any preparation for assuming high office. In that sense, the Palin nomination is as much of a test of us as it is of her.

So, what Alter is saying is that he views it as the MSM's job to destroy Palin. No bias there, huh? Also, his suggestion of hiding Palin is just stupid. Her introduction into the campaign has boosted campaign donations, energized McCain's base, and seriously threatens to steal several key constituencies from Obama. Why in the world would they hide Palin?

Fortunately, the American people have begun to wise up to the rampant MSM hackery: 52% say that the media is 'rooting for' Obama (for the record, this survey was taken before Palin's speech last night). Also interesting in this poll is that 80% say Bristol Palin's pregnancy is a private matter.

Tonight, John McCain should receive a double gift. Not only is he officially accepting the Republican nomination in front of a (finally) excited base, but Barack the Obamessiah is also doing an interview with Bill O'Reilly. There are reports that the Obamessiah said things like 'the surge succeeded beyond our wildest dreams'.

Seriously?? This guy is the best the Democrats have??

It will be child's play for McCain to take this statement and obliterate it with his own record, Obama's record, and Obama's own words over the past couple of years. McCain couldn't have asked for a better opportunity to differentiate the two candidates!

There's my two cents.
