The danger is still there, of course, but it's the big fish who arrange the funding, training, and inspiration for the foot soldiers of this war. Taking them out en masse is a great thing, and should continue. The officials say the [Al Qaeda] terrorist network's leadership cadre has been "decimated," with up to a dozen senior and midlevel operatives killed as a result of the strikes and the remaining leaders reeling from the repeated attacks.
"The enemy is really, really struggling," says one senior U.S. counterterrorism official. "These attacks have produced the broadest, deepest and most rapid reduction in al-Qaida senior leadership that we've seen in several years."…
"In the past, you could take out the No. 3 al-Qaida leader, and No. 4 just moved up to take his place," says one official. "Well, if you take out No. 3, No. 4 and then 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, it suddenly becomes a lot more difficult to revive the leadership cadre."
Now that Obama and the Democrats are in control in Washington, we'll probably start seeing more good news about American exploits overseas. I'll take it...but I'll also remember who it was who stood fast in the face of tremendous political pressure long enough to bring about this decimation.
Hot Air has an interesting bit of speculation on how our success has been increasing lately:
Cool. Even better. Nothing like a little treachery to provoke some dissension in the ranks, and if they're watching their own backsides they'll be less effective in their attacks on American targets.
There's my two cents.
