There's history to be had here, too, as Steele is the first black RNC chair. I've seen some commentary suggesting that that was one of the things that makes him appealing - he has the unique ability to relentlessly attack the Obamessiah without fear of getting labeled a racist. Of course, the liberal Left will still call him 'Uncle Tom', 'sell-out', and other savory things, but the racist label is going to be a stretch.A message from the new leader of the party — or rather, the other new leader. It wasn’t easy getting here:
Quote: “To my friends in the northeast: Get ready, baby, it’s time to turn it on.”Steele won after a highly coordinated yet under-the-radar campaign in which his whip team sought to convince members that the RNC needed to reach out to centrist voters with a new voice.
He hop-scotched the country for months, meeting with members in their home states. At a candidates’ forum Thursday night, Steele said he had raised about $250,000, making the race for RNC chairman likely the most expensive per capita in history.
Regardless of how much his skin color factored in, Steele seems to be a great choice. From what I've read, he's a solid conservative, he's great in front of the cameras, and seems to have that mysterious characteristic that has eluded many Republican leaders for years: a spine.
Here's hoping Steele can whip this party into shape!
There's my two cents.
