This was an interesting line from Barack Obama's speech in Strasbourg, France on Friday April 3, 2009.And has he even read our founding documents? You know, for a Harvard law professor, he seems to have an awfully shaky grasp of the foundation of America.
Barack Obama reveals a bizarre understanding of American values:We know that transformational change is possible. We know this because of three reasons: First, because, for all our differences, there are certain values that bind us together and reveal our common humanity: the universal longing to live a life free from fear, and free from want; a life marked by dignity and respect and simple justice. So freedom from "fear" and "want" are Western values that bind us together?
Our two republics were founded in service of these ideals. In America, it is written into our founding documents as "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." In France: "Liberté" -- (applause) -- absolutely -- "egalité, fraternité." (Applause.) Our moral authority is derived from the fact that generations of our citizens have fought and bled to uphold these values in our nations and others.
Since when? That's kind of bizarre.
Is that what separates America from China or Saudi Arabia?
Freedom from "want" and "simple justice" sound more like something Karl Marx would say than George Washington.
In fact, it looks like he took the line from none other than failed UN General Secretary Kofi Annan:Women themselves have the right to live in dignity, in freedom from want and freedom from fear."Just what exactly is Obama talking about here?
Does he even know what he's saying?
I agree with Gateway Pundit above - the only realistic way to understand these words is to understand that Barack Obama doesn't subscribe to the same philosophy of America that you or I do, or that the Founding Fathers did, either. Remember, he thinks that the concept of limited government and individual liberty is the fundamental flaw of the U.S. Constitution because he believes strongly in redistribution of wealth (i.e. socialism, or, in its end form, Communism). Just look at the end result of trying to remove 'fear' from everyone. Fear of foreclosure? No problem, we'll guarantee your mortgages. Fear of your car breaking down? Don't worry, we'll guarantee your warranty. Fear of racism or Islam? Relax, we'll just silence anyone who mentions either. Fear of the dark? Piece of cake...just gaze into the giant halo above the Obamessiah's princely head.
He's not concerned with following or honoring the Constitution and the Declaration, but rather 're-making' them into what he thinks is a better solution: socialism. This redefinition of our fundamental values is as revealing as it is twisted.
There's my two cents.
