Bits and Pieces of Amnesty

Michelle Malkin has often predicted that if a comprehensive amnesty bill gets defeated we would then see a series of smaller pieces trying to get many of the same provisions slipped through individually. She's right again.

Dick Durbin (the number 2 Democrat in the Senate) has re-introduced the DREAM Act, which would grant in-state tuition to illegal aliens, giving them a better financial position than American citizens. The vile part of this is that he's trying to put it into a defense spending bill, as reported by the Coalition Against Illegal Immigration.

Kris Kobach dismantled the DREAM Act in last year's immigration reform debate here, lining out the dangers of the bill as well as the problems with the 10 states (one of which is Kansas) that defied the 1996 federal law preventing what the DREAM Act essentially attempted to do.

Check out the links for all the details. Then call your reps and give them your thoughts. Just because the comprehensive amnesty bill was defeated doesn't mean all the work is done. Long-term victory comes to the vigilant.

There's my two cents.

***UPDATE: After reading a little bit more on this, it appears that this amendment (and the DREAM Act itself) are a thinly disguised attempt at getting amnesty itself slipped past the American people. Check out the link to CAII above for all the slimy details! And contact your Senators to vote NO on the Durbin-Hagel-Lugar DREAM Act amendment to H.R. 1585!
