Barack Obama is favored to win all three because of the higher concentration of blacks and better educated voters, blocs that have so far favored him in this election cycle. If Clinton loses these three states (I know, DC isn't a state, but it's easier to refer to it that way), that makes quite an impressive string of defeats that she has managed to put together! If that happens, the upcoming Texas and Ohio primaries could be her last hope against ultimate defeat. Of course, we're talking about the Clintons, and you can never truly count them out, can you?
Hillary's latest tactic is to paint the scenario as a visionary without substance versus a cold manager who is prepared to lead. It's a bit of a risky proposal, but she appears to be lacking in options, as one of her biggest support bases -- women -- is defecting to Obama with much adoration and happy weeping. She also just replaced her top campaign aide, which is a clear signal of problems. As I blogged about weeks ago, others are also indicating that Hillary will resort to lawsuits to try to get the Florida and Michigan delegates included. Not only would this be a clear violation of election rules, but one half of the Democrat party would be forced to heavily support the same court decisions that they protested in 2000 in the Gore v. Bush case. As my father says, the one tenet of liberalism that you can count on is that it will always eventually come into conflict with itself. Case in point.
In a bit of spicy Obama news, it appears that the Che Guevara flag -- a Cuban flag with the picture of the communist mass murderer on it -- flies freely in Obama's Houston office. Huh?? This from the guy who's running for President and refuses to wear an American flag lapel pin?? Rick Moran goes into more depth:
Barack Obama's Houston campaign office prominently displays a Cuban flag with a superimposed picture of Che Guevara, the Argentine-born terrorist and revolutionary.
Of course, Obama made an issue of not wearing an American flag pin or placing his hand over his heart during the national anthem, quite rightly pointing out that neither gesture is necessary to be patriotic. But it sure makes him look like a fool when his ultra-left supporters go to work every day under the flag of the dictator Fidel Castro.
I really don't know what's worse; displaying the flag of a nation led by a regime that routinely locks people up and executes them for disagreeing with the government or featuring an iconic image of a man who stated on one occasion that he wished he had control of the nuclear missiles brought in by Russia in 1962 so he could have launched them at American cities.
This fascination with Che Guevara must end. He executed up to 500 people in a couple of months after the Cuban revolution - many of whom may have been innocent. Whether they were or not was immaterial to him; "I don't need proof to execute a man, I only need proof that it's necessary to execute him," he is said to have remarked.
It is typical of the left to create a hero out of this murderous thug. What's important to them is that he "spoke truth to power" - i.e., criticized the United States. How shallow and stupid to overlook the crimes against humanity committed by Guevara and celebrate his anti-Americanism.
About what we've come to expect from the left...
Troubling, very troubling. At the least, it's a disturbing sign of a lack of political common sense (which will most certainly spill over into other areas of an Obama presidency); at worst, this is yet another indicator that Obama may not have the best interests of America at heart. Moran also questions a glaring loophole in campaign finance law which could allow millions of dollars to be funneled into presidential campaigns from foreign sources. While most (if not all) of the candidates have taken part, guess who the worst offender is? Obama.
Moving on...for an interesting (if you're into this sort of thing) breakdown of the voting in the Democrat race so far, check out this article by Jay Cost of RealPolitics.com.
On the Rep side, McCain is hoping to rebound from losses last weekend, too. Though he was awarded the win -- his only one of the weekend -- for Washington state, Huckabee is challenging the contest. Huckabee still has no intention of withdrawing, so it should be interesting to see if the conservative base rallies around Huckabee in defiance of McCain despite the fact that Huckabee has almost no chance of winning enough delegates to get the nomination.
Now you're up to date!
There's my two cents.
