Nancy Pelosi: Amnesty And Ethics

Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gets her own post today because of two key issues.  First, she's back to her tricks of implementing amnesty again.  Some Democrats have finally realized that illegal immigration is a big deal for a lot of Americans, so they're trying to talk tough about it.  But, when it comes time to actually walk the talk, they fall flat.

For example, if they really wanted immigration reform, they would support a bipartisan effort to secure the borders and reduce illegal immigration through employee verification and enforcement.  Such a measure exists: the SAVE (Secure America through Verification and Enforcement) Act, H.R.4088.  Introduced by Rep. Heath Shuler, North Carolina Democrat, it enjoys wide bipartisan support (almost 140 co-sponsors), but the Democrat leadership is doing everything they can to bottle it up in committee.

Republicans are trying to force the bill to the House floor for a vote with a petition which would require some 20 Democrats to defy Pelosi's directive that this bill should not come out.  The petition is gaining steam, though, so Democrat leaders have implemented a Plan B - a 'killer amendment' on the bill that would grant a 5-year amnesty to illegal aliens if passed.

Once again, it is clear that the Democrat leadership is more willing to advocate for illegal aliens than for American citizens.  There's something fundamentally wrong with that, and I think we need to stand up and tell them it's going to stop!  Call your Rep and tell them to support the SAVE Act, and NOT the 5-year amnesty amendment.

Second, we come to Nancy Pelosi's commitment when she was sworn in as the Speaker of the House back in 2006.  One of her promises to the American people was to run the most ethical Congress in history, and yet now we have this story that has been buried by the MSM:

On August 2nd, 2007 Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) submitted a bill to the U. S. House of Representatives which raised a potential conflict of interest involving the Speaker's widely publicized family stock holdings, corporate sponsors, and former staffers turned lobbyists.

The short version here is that companies in which Pelosi (or those close to her) has a significant financial interest stand to earn an immense amount of money if her bill goes through.  This appears to be a direct conflict of interest violation, but the story has been buried.  In addition, these companies have provided
campaign fundraising support to Pelosi over the years, prompting even more questions about her connections in these dealings.

These current scandals bear striking resemblance to previous ones:

...the early 2007 incident in which the Speaker promoted a minimum wage hike that would include all U.S. areas except American Samoa. Some large companies with canneries in Samoa are headquartered in the Speaker's district. Amgen is a powerhouse in Northern California, with a significant presence in the Speaker's district. That fact mirrors the Samoa controversy in which critics accused Pelosi of playing favorites with her district. And in 2007 it was revealed that the Speaker sponsored a massive earmark that would probably affect the value of property in which her husband was invested.

Who is asking questions about Speaker Pelosi's potentially illegal -- and certainly unethical -- activities?  Where are the calls for investigation into her own personal 'culture of corruption'?

The MSM has buried these stories, proving they aren't above their own version of journalistic corruption, and illustrating once again the fact that they are nothing more than the Democrat party's propaganda machine.  But I've come to expect these things.  What I find most disappointing is the fact that there are apparently no Republicans willing to stand up against this kind of corruption in the highest levels of the Democrat party.  If the GOP isn't willing to do this, then it has bigger issues than I thought.

There's my two cents.
