Palestinian militants detonated a bomb next to an Israeli army patrol along the border with Gaza on Tuesday, killing one soldier and straining the fragile cease-fire on the eve of a visit by President Barack Obama's new Mideast envoy.
Israeli soldiers briefly crossed the border in search of the attackers and Hamas said one of its militants was wounded in an Israeli airstrike.
The violence jolted the calm that has largely prevailed since Israel ended a devastating three-week offensive on Jan. 17. Since withdrawing its troops, Israel has threatened to retaliate hard for any violations of the truce.
I guess it must be something about that core belief of theirs that Israel just shouldn't exist...At some point, can we please stopped being surprised by the fact that Hamas literally always breaks every truce and cease-fire to which they agree? Their mission statement is predicated upon the non-existence of Israel, so why do we think there can ever really be peace with them?
It's ain't gonna' happen. There is no negotiating with people who believe you have no right to continue breathing. We'd better wise up to that fact fast, or there are going to be even problems in the near future. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced Obama and his crack team of 300 foreign policy experts have enough collective brainpower (or realism) to do so.
There's my two cents.
