"The same prudence which in private life would forbid our paying our own money for unexplained projects, forbids it in the dispensation of the public moneys."

If only! Though Jefferson is exactly right -- and most Americans would agree with him -- we have still somehow allowed a group of socialist, Leftist Democrats to control our national budget for the next two (maybe more) years. Who knows what they'll spend money on?
"Nothing is more essential to the establishment of manners in a State than that all persons employed in places of power and trust must be men of unexceptionable characters."

Ha! Uh...can we say oops? It's a great idea, but I'm not sure there are any of those anymore; certainly not many currently in Congress. It's too bad we now have to deal with the consequences of that fact.
"We should never despair, our Situation before has been unpromising and has changed for the better, so I trust, it will again. If new difficulties arise, we must only put forth new Exertions and proportion our Efforts to the exigency of the times."

I could have sworn George died hundreds of years ago, but this speaks volumes to us on the Right today.
"On the other hand, the duty imposed upon him to take care, that the laws be faithfully executed, follows out the strong injunctions of his oath of office, that he will 'preserve, protect, and defend the constitution.' The great object of the executive department is to accomplish this purpose; and without it, be the form of government whatever it may, it will be utterly worthless for offence, or defence; for the redress of grievances, or the protection of rights; for the happiness, or good order, or safety of the people."

This applies to both ex-President Bush and now-President Obama, don't you think? One accomplished it for seven years, and one gave up in less than a day.
There's my two cents.
