South Korean scientists have created cats that glow in the dark by manipulating a fluorescent protein gene to clone them. Check it out:
While this is pretty cool (my son immediately wanted a glow-in-the-dark cat), it's also pretty disturbing. If you want a fictionalized guess at the future of genetic manipulation, read Michael Crichton's Next. It's fiction, but it's still a sobering picture of what could happen if genetic manipulation goes too far. Something to keep in mind.
There's my two cents.
