A couple more updates and short tidbits for you on recent issues.
Huckabee's Stances
Mike Huckabee has stated that he agrees with Sen. McCain that waterboarding should not be used on detainees to learn information that could prevent future attacks. He has also expressed agreement that Gitmo should be closed. I don't understand anyone who thinks this...where, then, should we put those detainees? Inside the United States?? Remember, these are people that were picked up on the battlefield trying to kill American soldiers!
The New NIE About IRAN
Herbert Meyer asks the question about the recent revelations on Iran's nuclear program: is the conclusion of the report supported by the evidence? He points out that this report contradicts another NIE in 2005 stating the exact opposite. Given the potential impact if this report is wrong, and given the rather large mistakes made by the intelligence community in recent years, there is reason for skepticism. For example, the IAEA -- amazingly enough -- isn't fully confident in this report. Also, the Wall Street Journal and others question the motives of the principle authors of the report, saying they have "reputations as hyper-partisan anti-Bush officials".
Politics at play...
Again, we can all hope that this latest report is right, but we need to know for sure. It could be catastrophic if is not.
Hill-raiser Norman Hsu
Hillary Clinton's big-time fundraiser Norman Hsu has now been indicted for screwing investors for millions of dollars, and for making illegal campaign contributions. No comment from the Clinton campaign, but chances are they've thrown him under the bus.
There's my two cents.
