The Wrong Kind Of Illegal Alien Tip Line

Michelle Malkin highlights a report in the Orange County Register that you have got to read to believe. City leaders in Santa Ana, California have refused to declare the city a sanctuary for illegal aliens. In response, illegal alien advocates demonstrated outside city hall, accusing federal officials of 'terrorizing' illegal aliens and their families. A coalition of advocacy groups recently announced plans to start a hotline notifying people when and where immigration raids will take place. The hotline will also direct relatives of detainees and deportees to legal assistance, along with information on what to do in case of a raid. "We want to have a more organized effort to counter these attacks," said Jaime Conteras, a 20-year-old Filipino immigrant who now lives in Santa Ana. "We cannot let people trample on our rights."

Trample your rights?! Call me crazy, but I don't believe that someone who is not an American citizen, who broke the law to come to America illegally and is continuing to violate the law by staying here illegally, probably utilizing government services paid by me, probably not paying his own taxes, and potentially benefitting from the theft of someone else's legitimate identification should be ranting about having his 'rights' trampled!

By the way, what kind of 'attacks' are we talking about here? What kind of people are being 'terrorized'?

The article tells us: "During five days of raids in June, 175 people in Orange County were arrested on suspected immigration violations. The raids arrested 27 suspected criminals, including a man wanted for murder and a convicted child molester."

This is a perfect example of the mentality of the people defending illegal aliens. They're willing to completely sell out the laws and integrity of America while accusing those upholding the law of terrorism. This is anti-Americanism at its finest.

On the other hand, there is some good immigration news out there. The New York Times reports that federal authorities are planning to crack down on businesses hiring people with false social security numbers (i.e. illegal aliens). Despite the failure of the amnesty bill earlier this summer, they're moving forward with plans to step up raids around the country to back up the new policy. Illegal alien advocates are -- surprise, surprise -- dismayed at the move, and are predicting doom and gloom for the economy, as well as a backlash of racism against Hispanic workers.

Oh, please! Oops, did I say that out loud?

Anyway, some Republican lawmakers welcomed the administration’s stance. "If they shut off the jobs magnet in the workplace in a way that shows they are serious about restoring the rule of law, then I’m encouraged," said Representative Steve King of Iowa.

The new rules would clarify the steps needed to take by an employer when they are notified of a social security number mismatch (by the Social Security Administration), giving them time to correct any potential clerical errors or other legitimate mistakes. If that happens, the employer is safe from penalties, which could be as high as $10,000.

I just hope they follow through with this, instead of leaving it as yet another unfulfilled promise. If the jobs dry up, the illegal immigration problem will shrink on its own, especially if enforcement extends to more raids and additional deportations. This, plus the Secure Borders First Act, plus the turnaround of some notable politicians on the issue, may mean that Washington has finally started listening to the vast majority of Americans who want substance and action. It's about time!

There's my two cents.
