Now Is The Time For Immigration Reform!

I recently saw a very disturbing video about immigration done by Roy Beck of NumbersUSA, one of the main organizations responsible for the opposition to the amnesty bill earlier this summer. If I recall, it's about 12-15 minutes long, but it is WELL worth the time spent to show the true nature of the magnitude of the immigration issue. Watch the first part here, and the second part here. It'll blow your mind!

In a recent blast e-mail, Beck calls Americans to take action. Right now, there is some momentum for real enforcement on the illegal immigration front. Current legislation proposed by the Bush administration has two critical components:

1. an aggressive 'no match' campaign throughout the business community to identify workers with potentially fraudulent Social Security numbers
2. all companies doing business with the government will be required to use the E-VERIFY program to weed out illegal new hires

These two promises are BIG, and exactly what needs to happen. One of the biggest magnets that brings people here illegally is the promise of jobs. If we crack down on businesses who hire illegals, the job magnet will go away. Combined with the recent promises of better enforcement, many illegals will likely decide that it's not worth the risk to remain here, especially if the recent $3 billion allocated specifically for border enforcement is used wisely. These are great steps toward reducing illegal immigration and cleaning up this mess...if they get carried out.

Beck calls for continued pressure on the administration (as well as Congress) to fulfill these two promises. So, call your Reps, your Senators, and the White House and lodge your opinion. This is a great chance to accomplish something real.

Politicians tend to listen to their constituencies more when an election is close, so now is the time to act. We've got the momentum, and the election is on Washington's mind; if we continue pushing now, real reforms can be made without any amnesty involved, and America will be better off for it.

There's my two cents.
