Running Out Of Car Companies

Sheesh. If one is interested in avoiding government ownership of one's car,
the number of options are rapidly dwindling:

The Energy Department is lending money to the Ford Motor Co. and two other automakers from a $25 billion fund to develop fuel-efficient vehicles, congressional officials say.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu was scheduled to announce the loan funding for Ford, Nissan Motor Co. and Tesla Motors Inc. on Tuesday in Dearborn, Mich., the officials said. They requested anonymity because an official announcement was pending.

I realize that 'green' loans similar to these have been issued in the past, but it still amazes me that any self-respecting company would accept government money after watching the brute-force takeover of GM and Chrysler that began with simple loans. I was (for the first time in my life) considering a Ford purchase, but my ability to stomach the idea is in direct reverse proportionality to how much money Ford takes from Obama.

We'll see what happens with all of this. Maybe it'll work out okay, and this won't bury the same deep hooks into these other companies.

Maybe.

There's my two cents.
