Today's Notable Items

I've actually been away from the computer for most of the day today; all previous posts were done and scheduled last night (isn't technology wonderful?), and I fired this one off before lunch. But, the world doesn't stop just because I'm out of town, so I wanted to quickly highlight just a few of the biggest things going on as of the last time I scanned the news:

Obama refuses to man up; the House doesn't

The House today voted to support Iranian dissidents and “all Iranians who embrace the values of freedom, human rights, civil liberties and the rule of law.” The resolution
(H Res 560) passed with 405 yea votes and only one nay, and two members voting present.

As I said earlier, and as many of our Representatives emphasized today, this has nothing to do with supporting Mousavi. In fact it offers no commentary on Mousavi whatsoever. This resolution is about supporting the cause of freedom. As Congressman Pence stated “The cause of America is freedom.”

I think it speaks volumes that this almost unanimous statement in support of freedom and liberty is something that our vaunted Deliverer President couldn't quite offer himself. I commend both the Reps and Dems in the House for taking sides in one of the biggest issues of the day, though I truly wonder about those three morons who didn't join them.

Record unemployment continues

Disaster--
The US lost over 2.5 million jobs in the first four months of this year under the Obama Administration.
The US unemployment rate rose from 7.6% to 9.4% under Obama... the highest rate in 25 years.

The US has lost 16,000 jobs each day since Democrats passed their non-Stimulus bill, the largest redistribution of wealth from the private sector to government officials in US history. Obama promised the Stimulus bill would bring down unemployment.
Guess not.

12 states are now experiencing record unemployment numbers.

Michigan again reported the highest jobless rate, 14.1 percent in May. The states with the next highest rates were Oregon, 12.4 percent; Rhode Island and South Carolina, 12.1 percent each; California, 11.5 percent; Nevada, 11.3 percent; and North Carolina, 11.1 percent. Six additional states and the District of Columbia recorded unemployment rates of at least 10.0 percent. The California, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, and South Carolina rates were the highest on record for those states. Florida, at 10.2 percent, and Georgia, at 9.7 percent, also posted series highs. Nebraska and North Dakota registered the lowest unemployment rates, 4.4 percent each.

Barack Obama admitted this week that the US unemployment rate will reach 10% this year.

There's a lot going on, but it's important to keep up with things. Failing to do so could lead to waking up and wondering what happened to your country...literally.
