Hands Off The Kids...Unless Their Parents Are Politically To The Right

Remember how Chelsea Clinton was left off-limits by the GOP despite the determined attacks against Bill Clinton? The idea at the time was that any President's kid should never be used as a target for personal attacks, and that it was grossly inappropriate to cross that line.

Now that the Left has a favorite target, that understanding has gone out the window. Ugly:

Nice. Notice the raucous laughter from the audience. Very classy. But that's not all:

Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure that if a Righty had suggested that Michelle Obama was a 'slutty flight attendant', Letterman would be looking for a job already. Just ask Imus.

Then we find out that the daughter in question was not actually Bristol but Willow, the 14-year old! Then Todd Palin stepped in:

"Any 'jokes' about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too."

But liberals still clearly don't:

Contessa Brewer's dander hops up instantly at the suggestion that Letterman's joke was inappropriate. Seriously? She doesn't understand why this might cause some teeny little bit of offense? She must have a different definition of 'common sense' than I do! By the way, Google says Brewer actually hasn't been called 'slutty' in public.

Ever the liberal propaganda machine, the New York Times has now airbrushed Letterman's offensive comments from their website.

The outrage against this sort of liberal trash isn't solely in the GOP. Hillbuzz, for example, posts a list of Letterman advertisers you can contact or boycott, as well as their own Top 10 list of why Letterman should be forced to retire.

They're exactly right. This goes beyond Republican and Democrat, and it goes beyond politics. Under no circumstances should a child -- especially a minor with no involvement in politics whatsoever -- be made a target of political attacks. Does the Left not understand the gross inappropriateness of this, or do they just not care?

Does it matter?
