Senate Democrats and Republicans reached an agreement with President Bush this week on a new surveillance bill that would take over once the 6-month agreement passed earlier in the year expired.
One of the most controversial parts of the Senate bill is immunity to telecommunications companies who provided records and information to the government to assist in tracking terrorist activities. Disclosure of the Senate agreement caused a competing measure in the House to be pulled because of a lack of support for the alternate bill.
It was yet another big win for Bush in regard to the War on Terror, and yet another defeat for Nancy Pelosi -- one of the big backers of the alternate bill -- and the Democrats.
I would also point out the party who is consistently fighting for the protection of the terrorists, and fighting against the protection of Americans: the Democrats.
There's my two cents.
