Fun & Frivolity: Technology Rocks!

I thought it might be fun to share some cool/interesting technology tidbits for your weekend reading pleasure. Enjoy:

Disappearing Car Doors
Personally, I think this would be great! In particular, with young children, anything that makes it easier to get in or out of the vehicle gets my stamp of approval!

Interpreting the Bark
Ever wonder what a dog means when it barks? Hungarian scientists have developed a software program to analyze dog barks, interpreting such things as "fight", "stranger", and "play":

The special programme analysed more than 6,000 barks from 14 Hungarian sheepdogs in six different situations. The computer correctly identified the different situations 43 per cent of the time. Although it was not a high success rate it was far better than human recognition, the researchers said.

I just have on question: how did they knew the answers were correct...?

Be an Astronaut
Virgin Galactic recently announced its plans for commercial flights into space. Test flights are expected to begin in June of this year, with booked commercial flights beginning about 12 months later. More than 200 people have already paid a deposit of 100,000 pounds (almost a quarter million dollars) for a 2-hour flight with 4.5 minutes of weightlessness. I think this is fantastic! If we really want to see advances in spaceflight technology, let the private sector take a crack at it. I guarantee you someone will come up with a way to get into space for less money and time than the government. Move over NASA...competition is coming!

Worst Gadgets of 2007
Popular Mechanics picks the worst techie toys from last year. From a vibrating fitness machine to a wi-fi rabbit, these are good for a chuckle.

Happy Friday!
