Republican presidential candidate seems to be taking a risk by alienating the Republican base on illegal immigration. Saying illegal immigration isn't a crime and is therefore not prosecutable, Giuliani has taken an additional risk, doing an about-face on his stance as NYC mayor, in which he pursued even the smallest of crimes.
It will be very interesting to see where his poll numbers go from here. It was obvious that McCain's campaign tanked when he alienated the base on illegal immigration. Will Giuliani's do the same? Don't be surprised if it does - this is a big issue for the base.
There's my two cents.
