"I will decide based on whether I have about $30 million in committed campaign contributions and whether I think it is possible to run a campaign based on ideas rather than 30-second sound bites."Many Republicans agree he is well-suited to the task, but he was excoriated by the MSM as the Speaker of the House, and he can expect even more vicious attacks if he throws his hat into the ring for President. It would get extremely ugly, given today's political climate (where Dems and lefty wackos are willing to slander our highest and most honorable General during wartime).
Personally, I'd love to see him do it. He's got the name recognition, he's got the credentials and experience, and he's been out of politics for a few years (which means he's automatically more in touch with the American people). And, we know exactly where he stands on key issues, not only because of his Congressional record, but also through his writings over the past few years (see my recommendation on Winning the Future). He would definitely be the most consistent conservative in the running. Go Newt!
There's my two cents.
