Where Are The Attacks?

In the days leading up to the Petraeus report (today), many people thought we'd see a rash of bombings, killings, and violence in Iraq to try to persuade Americans that the surge wasn't working. So, where were the attacks?

They didn't happen.

Why not? Maybe because the surge is working so well - it's awfully hard to go on the offensive when you're struggling mightily on your own defense! How's that for irony?

There's a rumor of another bin Laden video that is about to be released, this one including the last message of one of the 9/11 hijackers.

By the way, Hugh Hewitt compiles some links on serious responses to Osama bin Laden's previous video message. The general thought seems to be that bin Laden isn't nearly as confident as he once was, and that he appears to be almost pleading with his base to keep fighting even as they are consistently getting wiped out on the battlefield. The most intriguing thing about this message (at least, politically speaking) is that bin Laden appears to be parroting several typical Democrat talking points, and seems to see the Democrats as his allies in victory over America:
"People of America: the world is following your news in regards to your invasion of Iraq, for people have recently come to know that, after several years of the tragedies of this war, the vast majority of you want it stopped. Thus, you elected the Democratic Party for this purpose, but the Democrats haven't made a move worth mentioning. On the contrary, they continue to agree to the spending of tens of billions to continue the killing and war there, which has led to the vast majority of you being afflicted with disappointment. And here is the gist of the matter, so one should pause, think, and reflect: why have the Democrats failed to stop this war, despite them being the majority."
Very telling. Who's the enemy now?

There's my two cents.
