Democrats Giving Up The Fight...Or Not?

The New York Times reports that Democrat leaders are preparing to compromise with Bush's plan to continue the surge in Iraq until the mission is won. If you read into the article, though, it becomes a study in political maneuvering. They've realized that the American people (and many Republicans in the Senate) just don't want to lose the war (and that this issue will be critical in the upcoming election), and are starting to backpedal a bit. Having failed with the outright demand for surrender a few weeks ago, they're now contemplating a much more subtle surrender - demanding that some troops be withdrawn by a certain date.

How is surrender a little bit at a time different than surrender all at once?

Clearly, the Democrat leadership is still leading the charge for American failure and defeat. Fortunately, Bush isn't likely to give in at all, and he seems to be holding enough Republicans in check that he'll win the issue. One thing that would ensure the victory is for Americans to weigh in with the White House and Senate to demand that we don't give in to the Democrats' surrender plans.

There's my two cents.
