Ebb And Flow

A couple of updates on recent issues.

Anti-sanctuary city measure
Last night, the Senate voted against the Vitter amendments, thus allowing these so-called 'sanctuary cities' to continue violating American law by protecting illegal aliens. It was a close vote (52-48), but there are some interesting things to note.

First, for those of us in Missouri, McCaskill departed from her normal opposition to illegal aliens and voted against these amendments. I spoke with her office yesterday, and they assured me she was not in favor of anything helping illegal aliens. Good consistency, Senator.

Second, only a single Democrat (Landrieu of Louisiana) voted in favor of these amendments, which should say something about the party in general. It should also be pointed out that several RINOs (Republican in name only) showed their normal colors: Specter of Pennsylvania, Lugar of Indiana, Hagel of Nebraska, Stevens of Alaska, and then Collins and Snowe from Maine.

We lost this round, but others will come. Keep an eye open. The good news is that it took several tries to get such a resolution passed in the House, and this was only the first attempt for the Senate. That it was so close is a good sign for future action.

DREAM Act
The vote for the DREAM Act may happen today, so call and e-mail your Senators RIGHT NOW!

Turkey Condemnation
The Democrats' latest attempt to undermine the American war effort is losing support. The vote has not happened yet, so keep contacting your Reps, but the good news is that if the momentum keeps up, it will fail.

These three issues are great examples of why we need to be involved in the political process - they are important to Americans, and important to the American way of life. We need to be watchful and participate in our government. That's the American way.

There's my two cents.
