The Rush Kerfuffle

Okay, you may have heard about how Rush Limbaugh is mocking the military as being 'phony soldiers'. Not surprisingly, this is only half the story being told by the MSM. Here's the short version.

Rush Limbaugh was commenting on a story about Jesse MacBeth, who was supposedly a decorated Army Ranger in Iraq and recounted horror stories of atrocities committed by our troops. The truth is that MacBeth wasn't an Army Ranger, never saw combat, and washed out of the military in just a few weeks. Rush was calling out the MSM on stories of phony soldiers like MacBeth (and others) that have been utterly disproven.

This was all reported by ABC several days before Rush said anything, but that doesn't seem to make much difference to the attack Dems...I mean, dogs, who are also ignoring a Department of Justice report last month about a legal crackdown on fake veterans in which at least 8 cases already being prosecuted (one of whom is Jesse MacBeth).

Of course, the MSM can't be counted upon to accurately report anything when it comes to Rush Limbaugh, so they merely picked the parts they liked and left out the rest (which was, unfortunately, the truth). Democrats in Congress are now going after Limbaugh, with Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid chastising Limbaugh and calling him all manner of mean things, and Democrat Senator Harkin -- a man with a history of lying about his own military record -- even hitting below the belt and saying Limbaugh was on drugs again.

This is something of an unprecedented nature - the Senate trying to smear a private citizen. Should we be surprised that the group behind the smear campaign is one that Hillary Clinton and George Soros helped create?

Naturally, Limbaugh is not one to take these things lying down. He has made transcripts and video of his complete remarks available for free on his website (YouTube video here), so anyone (including the MSM) can go see for themselves what he said. The MSM apparently can't be bothered to do real research, but you can go check it out. Furthermore, Limbaugh challenged Harry Reid to come onto his program to make his accusations live and in person, and to try to prove them. Limbaugh is more than happy to stand on his 19-year public record of constant support of the military.

This would be something much of the country would absolutely love to see, but it'll never happen, of course. Not only is Harry Reid mentally not up to the task of taking on Limbaugh, but he doesn't even have the support of such trivialities as truth or fact.

The truth is that it is the Democrats who have been constantly seeking surrender and the withdrawal of support for our troops and the war effort, and there is no hiding that anymore.

So why is all of this going on? Is it just politics as usual? Perhaps, but there are some specific reasons posed by numerous sources (including Limbaugh himself): to distract the public from the good news in Iraq, to distract the Democrat base and the Left from the failure to do anything the Democrats promised before the 2006 elections, to achieve the same kind of public outrage as what happened with the MoveOn.org smear on General Petraeus.

Whatever the motivation, it won't work. Limbaugh has his history, the facts, and the truth to lean on, and anyone who cares to look into it at all will see that plainly. This is just the latest in a long series of smear campaigns perpetrated by the Democrat leadership against anyone who doesn't agree with them: in the great tradition of Stalin and Communist dictators all over the world, if they don't agree, they must be silenced.

This will backfire, just like the General 'Betray us' ad did. The more they fight, the more they reveal who they really are and how they operate, and that only angers the good and decent citizens of America.

I'm sure we'll hear more about this as time goes on. I can't wait!

There's my two cents.

***UPDATE***
Harry Reid sent a letter to the CEO of ClearChannel, Limbaugh's broadcaster, calling for action to be taken against Limbaugh; he refused, stating Limbaugh's right to free speech. The joke here is that only 41 Senators signed on to the letter with Reid - he couldn't even muster the full support of his own party in the Senate!

Also, there is no shortage of 'phony soldiers' - exactly the sort of people that Limbaugh was talking about. Just one listing can be found here.
