The November 19th, 2007 edition of US News & World Report contains an article about what groups of people Americans trust most...and least. There is broad discontent with our nation's leaders, with two thirds saying today's leaders 'pale in comparison' with those of 20 years ago. But, I wanted to point out some specific sections of America.
Here is the percentage of people who have a "great deal" of confidence in...
- Military leaders: 40%
- Medical leaders: 27%
- Supreme Court: 23%
- Religious leaders: 22%
...
- Congress: 9%
- Wall Street: 9%
- Media: 8%
- Entertainment industry: 7%
I think these numbers are very telling. The biggest problem I see here is that three of the worst confidence inducers (Congress, Media, and Entertainment industry) have a huge impact on American life, especially as it relates to the spread of information.
There's my two cents.
