Al Qaeda Routed From Baghdad

In one of the biggest stories since 9/11 -- though you'd never know it because the New York Times put it on page 18 -- a top American general in Iraq has declared that Al Qaeda has been 'routed' from every neighborhood in Baghdad:
Maj. Gen. Joseph F. Fil Jr., commander of United States forces in Baghdad, attributed the decline [in violence and death] to improvements in the Iraqi security forces, a cease-fire ordered by the Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr, the disruption of financing for insurgents, and, most significant, Iraqis' rejection of "the rule of the gun."
Is this huge news, or what? Sure, there's still violence there, and sure, it's only the capital city of the country...but the violence is down some 80%, and this is the capital city of Iraq! If an American general is willing to make this statement on record, this is a huge, HUGE accomplishment!

Marie's Two Cents posts the whole story, along with some commentary.

Now, the question should be put to every Democrat who has advocated for surrender in Iraq: are we finally winning now, or should we continue striving for defeat?

Speaking of which, Nancy Pelosi has re-introduced yet another Iraq surrender bill to the House.

Who do we want running the country, Republicans (who understand what's at stake with American victory and defeat) or Democrats (who are desperately trying to secure defeat while knocking on the doorstep of victory)?

Being blessed to live in America, we actually get to decide. I suggest we choose wisely.

There's my two cents.
