Just A Heads Up

As we head into this week, I wanted to offer some general observations and suggestions for you. The Democrat National Convention begins tomorrow. Duty requires that I follow it, but that doesn't mean you have to. Just check in here, and I'll keep you up to date with the biggest happenings.

It sounds like Hillary Clinton is going to give up her delegates at some point, but I still wouldn't be altogether surprised if she tried to pull a fast one, or at least shrugged and innocently tried to benefit from a...fortuitous...element of calamity that...just...might...occur...

What you will see:
You can expect literally wall-to-wall coverage of the DNC, and 110% of it will be gushingly positive, overwhelmingly favorable, and you will actually be shocked if the Obamessiah doesn't float down to the stage to accept the nomination on a cloud.

You can also expect to see loud and frequent proclamations of party unity
-- unless Hillary forces a worst-case scenario, that is -- and assurances that they're all behind the Obamessiah.

Obama will see a bounce in the polls, perhaps a significant one.

You will be surprised to discover that George W. Bush isn't running for his third term. The Dems will constantly rant against Bush in an attempt to attach McCain to Bush's 30-something percent approval rating [conveniently ignoring the Dem-led Congress' 9 percent approval rating].

Lots of stories about how this poor boy grew up with Kansas values and fought his way uphill through life [never mind the fact that his mom was from Kansas, but he never lived there...never mind the fact that she was an atheist...never mind the fact that he spent most of his education in expensive private schools in Hawaii, and finishing with Harvard].

What you won't see:
Objective reporting. I think we've pretty well seen that the MSM has given up that pesky objectivity schtick, but it'll get even worse now. They'll whitewash everything questionable or substandard, maybe even ignore it altogether, and hype every leg-tingle and nuance beyond reasonable measure.

Hillary's angry supporters. I blogged on this last week, but it sounds like there are a number of significant protests being held by Hillary supporters this week, and those will only get more intense since the revelation that Hillary wasn't even considered for VP.

You won't see anything about felon real estate fixer Tony Rezko, unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, racist hate-monger Jeremiah Wright, racist hate-monger Michael Pfleger, his terrorist-linked Palestinian friends, or any of the other questionable associations that illustrate just how appropriate his judgment is.

General thoughts...
It will be interesting to see just how much the poll bounce is - history tells us that a convention normally provides at least a 5 point bounce, and the McCain campaign is already setting expectations of 15 points. That's an interesting play, since it sets the bar extremely high, and if Obama doesn't reach it, that will automatically make his bounce look weaker. We'll see if it works. The poll numbers will be important, since Obama's lead has been shrinking fast through the past month, and is statistically insignificant at this point. If he doesn't get a big bump, McCain could make a serious run at taking the unquestioned lead in the race after the RNC next week.

So, be prepared for some serious Obamessiah worship over the next few days. I would also expect a fair number of gaffes and slips that won't be covered, but I'll pass them along to you here. For example, here's the first gaffe of the Obama-Biden ticket:

To be fair, he does identify the most experienced member of the ticket as the next President of the United States of America...

Have a great week!
