Democrats Ready To Extend Wiretapping Powers

The New York Times reports (grudgingly, I'm certain):

Two months after insisting that they would roll back broad eavesdropping powers won by the Bush administration, Democrats in Congress appear ready to make concessions that could extend some crucial powers given to the National Security Agency.

Both the House and Senate have a plan that would essentially extend the temporary measure passed in August for several years. The administration would like to see the measure permanently fixed, but whether or not that happens still remains to be seen.

Assuming this goes through, it would be the latest in a long line of failures on the part of the Democrat Congress, and another victory for the Bush administration in the War on Terror. And, just the fact that the Democrats are philosophically opposed to this obvious protection for Americans should speak volumes on which party is best suited to lead the country.

There's my two cents.
