Iran Continues Its Course

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has now officially announced that it has 3,000 centrifuges running successfully. Given enough time, Iran could now produce enough weapons-grade nuclear material to create an atomic bomb.

Despite a number of measures by countries around the world, Iran is belligerently continuing its nuclear program:
"They should know that the Iranian nation could not care less about the sanctions," Ahmadinejad said, adding that the Iranian people "will not retreat an iota from any of their rights, especially nuclear rights."

"The Iranian nation has entered the phase of industrial scale of nuclear fuel (production) and the train of the Iranian nation's progress is irreversible."
Meanwhile, Iranian police continue to crackdown on social 'vices', conducting
raids on underground parties, seizure of satellite dishes, and street checks of improperly dressed individuals. Women, in particular, have been warned for wearing tight, short coats and skimpy headscarves and for flouting the Islamic dress code, which requires every post-pubescent women to cover their hair and body contours.

Do we really want Iran to become a nuclear power, spreading its influence wider across the region? Since they show no sign of moderating voluntarily on anything, the world is going to have to do something about Iran; that really means the U.S. will have to do something about them. You'd better make up your mind about what you will accept soon, because at this rate it won't be long before the decision is forced upon us.

There's my two cents.

Iran's 3000 centrifuges produce low-enriched uranium. Nuclear weapons require highly enriched uranium. And, Iran's facilities are under IAEA round-the-clock monitoring. In fact several other countries have the same technology including Argentina and Brazil - countries which did actually have nuclear weapons ambitions, and whch are much closer to the US than Iran.

Ya know one day soon we are going to have to confront Iran.

I'm almost positive the Israeli's will do it first but we are going to have to confront them.

And this new alliance with France who seems to have no tolerance for Iran having any Nuclear weapons will join in the frey this time.

Anonymous - Did you read the articles? They were pretty clear about the centrifuges being capable of creating nuclear weapons-grade material. And, the IAEA has a proven track record of being useless. And, these other countries aren't exactly pledging to start the next world war by nuking America.

Marie - Yep, I agree. Israel does tend to have the guts to go it alone simply because it's the right thing to do, but that may end up getting them into trouble in the future. France's about face has proven that truth is stranger than fiction. Good news, though, to be sure.
